said that an auto rickshaw driver is no less than a pilot but the
perception is very different. Likewise, he shared that if a person
in poor attire comes to our home then the servant does not
treat him well but if someone in striking attire comes, he or she
is treated well.
He shared, “Many of our officers go abroad on study tours. Once
I decided to ask them what they did during these study tours. In
the very end I asked them- if you needed water who gave it to
you. They said they took it themselves. But here, if no peon comes
what happens?” Shri Modi pointed out that once we accept a
person’s dignity he is ready to do any work.
Talking further on the issue he opined, “For weddings, even in
poor households they ask where did you study and if someone
says ITI then they think again.” Shri Modi shared that to end this
the Government took a small decision of expanding the horizon
for ITI students and this opened several doors for the students.
“Those whose futures were locked after Class VIII were opened
by this small decision,” he affirmed and added that they cost the
Government nothing.
Shri Modi stated that along with skill development, another thing
they focused on is soft-skills. “Why can’t a turner learn proper
manners?” he asked and said that in Ahmedabad there is an auto
service where not only an you can call the auto by telephone but
also the driver is polite and treats the customer like an airhostess
does in an aircraft. Similarly, Shri Modi said that the Government
of Gujarat started an institute to train future teachers. The Chief
Minister opined that Human Resource Development must take
place in those regions where there is growth in that particular
field and that is when its true fruits will be seen.
Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Patel and other dignitaries were
present on the occasion.
