The Government of Gujarat has adopted a four pronged strategy to deal with the problem of total rural electrification: Sujalam Sufalam (Water harvesting scheme), Drip Irrigation Scheme, Mass awareness drive for Energy Conservation, and Jyotigram Yojna (Rural lighting scheme). Today,
it is a well known fact that the people of Gujarat are the happiest when it comes to electricity. Anyone visiting Gujarat appreciates the stark difference in the quality of the electricity supply between Gujarat and rest of the country. In the last decade, Gujarat has not only satisfactorily provided electricity to all the 18,000+ villages, but has also become a power surplus state.
